A Tibetan sentenced to suspended death sentence, two others to life and 16 years in prison in Nyarong

The Kardze Intermediate People’s Court has sentenced three Tibetans from Nyarong County (Ch: Xinlong xian) to varying prison terms, according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD).

Three Tibetans; Pema Yeshi, 28, Sonam Gonpo, 24, and Tsewang Gyatso a.k.a Tsok Tsok, 32, all from Thangkyi Township, Nyarong County, Kardze “Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture” (‘TAP’) Sichuan Province, were sentenced by the Kardze Intermediate People’s Court on 17 November 2009 to two-year suspended death sentence, life imprisonment and 16 years term respectively on charges of “inciting separatism” and “disturbing social order.”

TCHRD condemns China sentencing of Tibetan Filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen

The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) condemns in strongest term over China’s sentencing of Tibetan Filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen on 28 December 2009. It is not exactly known where his trial took place; however, it was believed that he was tried in a court in Xining, the provincial capital of Qinghai Province, where he had been detained since his arrest. According to Dhondup’s Cousin Gejong Tsetrin living in Switzerland who help distribute the film, the sentence was announced on 28 December 2009.

China sentences eight Tibetans to varying prison terms in Tibet

According to a confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), a Chinese court on 13 August 2009 in Golog “Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture” (“TAP”) sentenced eight Tibetans to varying prison sentences.

The People’s Court of Machen County, Golog “TAP”, Qinghai Province sentenced six monks and two lay Tibetans to varying prison terms for taking part in a peaceful protest on 21 March 2009.

Tibetan monk sentenced to 3-years for opposing ‘Patriotic education’ Campaign

A Chinese court in Kardze County, Sichuan Province, sentenced a Tibetan monk to three years in jail for his involvement in protest against the “Patriotic Education” campaign launched in Lithang in 2007, according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD).

Jamyang Tenzin, a 35-year-old monk of Yonru Geyden Rabgayling Monastery was sentenced to three years in jail by the Kardze Intermediate People’s Court around 3 July 2009. According to source, Jamyang Tenzin was arrested on 3 October 2007 for opposing the “work team” from conducting “Patriotic re-education” Campaign in the Yonru Monastery in Lithang County. The lengthy detention of Jamyang Tenzin since his detention in October 2007 until his court sentence in July this year is a matter of great concern and was a clear violation of the Chinese constitution and the international laws. Almost nothing is known of the circumstances under which Jamyang Tenzin was tried. Moreover, there is no information on whether he was provided with any due legal process, representative of his choice as his family members were completely kept in limbo for the past more than 21 months since his detention in 2007.

Chinese court sentences six monks in Chamdo

According to reliable information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), Chinese authority in Chamdo sentenced six Tibetan monks to varying prison terms on 22 May 2009.

Earlier on 5 January 2009, a bomb blast took place in Choekor Township, Jomda County, Chamdo Prefecture, “Tibet Autonomous Region” (“TAR”). The bomb blast incident was followed by few sporadic protests in the area. Few days later, six monks of Dhen Choekor Monastery were arrested on 9 and 10 January 2009 in Jomda County for staging protest demonstration.

China Sentences four Puru-na Nuns in Kardze County

According to a reliable information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), Kardze Court recently sentenced four nuns of Puru-na Nunnery, Su-ngog Township, Kardze County, Sichuan Province to varying prison terms.

The nuns were part of fifty nuns from Puru-na Nunnery in Kardze County which on 14 May 2008 staged a peaceful demonstration at Kardze County Headquarter against the illegal detentions and arrests of Tibetan people by the Chinese authorities.

Nine monks sentenced, other committed suicide in Tibet

Nine monks studying at Samye Monastery in Tibet were sentenced to varying prison terms between 2-15 years’ in jail for their participation in the last Spring Tibet protest in Lhoka Prefecture “Tibet Autonomous Region” (‘TAR’) and a monk committed suicide, according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD).

In the series of court sentences of the Tibetan people involved in the last spring Tibet protests, more cases of court sentences and other extreme cases of Tibetan committing suicide due to intolerable sufferings are surfacing.

China sentences four nuns and two laymen in Kardze

Chinese authorities has recently conducted a series of court trials of Tibetans arrested and detained for their involvement in the pan Tibet protests in 2008 which swept across the areas inhabited by Tibetans in Tibet. According to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), four nuns and two laymen from Kardze (Ch: Ganzi) County, Kardze “Tibet Autonomous Prefecture” (“TAP”), Sichuan Province were sentenced to a varying terms in January this year for staging a peaceful protest in 2008.

Monk and nun sentenced in Kardze

In a series of court trails recently of Tibetans detained for their involvement in the protest last year in Tibet, more such cases of court sentencing are slowly reaching the outside world. The latest among such court trials were from Kardze (Ch: Ganzi) where in January this year, monk and a nun were sentenced to varying prison terms of four and three years respectively for staging peaceful protests in Kardze county, according confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD).

Tibetan man blinded and sentenced to four years’ in jail in Ngaba

The Intermediate People’s Court of Ngaba County in Sichuan province sentenced a Tibetan to four years’ jail term for spearheading protests in Ngaba County last year, according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) from reliable sources.

A 33-year-old, Choephel of Urjamtsang family, Unit No. 2, Meruma Township, Ngaba County, Ngaba “Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture”(‘TAP’) Sichuan Province, who was involved in March 15, 16 and 17 protests in Ngaba County last year was sentenced to four years’ jail term by the Ngaba County Intermediate People’s Court on 4 November 2008. The court’s original sentence of ten years’ jail term to Choephel was later commuted to four years’ term on the ground of his clean past record, according to the source. The Intermediate People’s Court of Ngaba County convicted Choephel on alleged crimes of leading protest, looting and ransacking County Public Security Bureau (PSB) office and burning national flag in a series of protests that took place in Ngaba County last spring.
