Urgent appeal to the Government of China by the Special Rapporteur on the right to education, regarding allegations relating to restrictions imposed on the use of the Tibetan language in schools in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of China. Also contains a response form the Govt. of China.

The Special Rapporteur found out that the illiteracy rate in Tibet was at 39.5 per cent. The Special Rapporteur requested the Govt. of China to recognise minority rights by preserving minority languages and religions.
