TCHRD’s trilingual researchers and field officers routinely monitor the human rights situation inside Tibet by analyzing Chinese state media and publications, communication from Tibetans inside Tibet, updates from international human rights and news organizations, and through our network of contacts.
TCHRD publishes annual reports on the human rights situation in Tibet and thematic reports on emerging themes in the human rights situation in Tibet. Annual report are published in three languages and thematic reports are published in English. All information in the annual report is verified with at least two sources and information in the thematic reports is subjected to additional scrutiny.
TCHRD seeks to document each human rights violation in Tibet and maintains a Tibetan Political Prisoners Database with verified and updated data of over 5,000 known prisoners since 1990. The database uses the Uwazi platform.
TCHRD’s archives include updates and reports published on the human rights situation in Tibet since 1996. The archives also include communications with the UN.
TCHRD advocates for the rights of the Tibetan human rights defenders by submitting urgent appeals and reports to the UN human rights mechanisms for intervention participating in UN sessions and side events. Beyond the UN, we work to unite coalitions of civil society groups, propose evidence-based policy, and educate and lobby legislators worldwide. We also campaign to build public awareness about human rights and democracy.
Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) is a registered non-profit Tibetan human rights organization based in Dharamshala, India. TCHRD’s vital work is made possible by the generosity of our supporters and funders. With financial support from our generous funders, TCHRD is able to carry out evidence-based advocacy and campaigns by incorporating best practices in monitoring and documentation to provide the most accurate and credible information on the human rights situation in Tibet, one of the most repressed places in the world. Our work also empowers the most vulnerable Tibetans – including women, children, youths, activists, and former political prisoners – and other groups affected by human rights violations to address global decision-makers.
